BUDGET ANNOUNCEMENT

Greetings to all Wappinger residents!

The Town Board passed the 2012 Budget. It is posted on this website, so I invite you to examine it and send me any questions you may have.

This budget is very solid. There is no “fluff” or padding of any areas. We stayed within the State mandated 2% tax cap, producing a tax rate of $1.49 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. This translates to a Town tax decrease of about $5.00. Your individual tax bill may see an increase due to various funds that are not controlled by the Town Board: water and sewer districts, drainage districts, Fire Districts, the Grinnell Library Association, school taxes, county taxes.

We intend to operate a Town that is fiscally sound and fiscally responsible. We may have to amend this budget during 2012 to meet any emergencies or special situations that arise. Be assured that all Town Board actions will be public and your input is most welcome.

In the coming weeks, the schedule of 2012 Town Board meetings will be posted. Please feel free to come to any and all meetings! Until then, Happy Thanksgiving. The Town Board wishes you all the best of health and happiness as we approach the Holiday season.

News and Updates from Supervisor Barbara Gutzler

Recently, I had the honor of attending the Awards Dinner of Wappinger Youth Football League.  It was a privilege to present Town of Wappinger commendations to the football players and the Cheerleaders, and to pay tribute to these future leaders for their achievements and accomplishments.  My thanks to Glenn Dockery, Shireen Scott, and all executive board members for inviting me to such a joyous event.  Congratulations to players and parents for your exceptional efforts!

Congratulations to students from the Orchard View School, Wappingers Central School District for winning Cablevision’s “Power to Learn” campaign against Cyber-bullying! For their efforts in obtaining school-wide pledges against Cyber-bullying, the students received a $2,000 check from Cablevision to be used for their campaign to end this menace. Thank you to Roger Connor, Director of Governmental Affairs at Cablevision for honoring these students and their teacher, Ms. Jessica Brannen.

Keep your eyes on this column for information about the spring-time Town-wide road and parks clean-up.  We’ll also post announcements about our upcoming Recreation Department activities and other things you need to know.  As always, please read the Southern Dutchess News and watch Cablevision Channel 22, if you are a subscriber.  You can find lots of relevant Town information on these outlets!

ATTENTION!!!
Vehicle break-ins on residential properties have increased at an alarming rate.
Please keep your vehicles locked at all times whether in your driveway or on the street.
Please keep all valuables in your homes, not in your cars!

Recycle Center
We are asking for volunteers to serve on a “Recycle Center Oversight” Committee.  We need people to look over the recycle center operations and let us know of any problems with the fee structure, admission to the center, or general policies.  Your input is essential and we thank you in advance for any help and suggestions you can give.  Please call the Supervisor’s office at 297-2744 or e-mail me. if you have suggestions or can volunteer your time!
The Supervisor’s office is arranging to have the recycle center fee schedule posted on our Town website and the Town’s Channel 22, Cablevision.  We will also ask the Poughkeepsie Journal and Southern Dutchess News to publish the fees.  As always, my door is open to you should you have questions or concerns.
